Cold day in Calgary

Arrived in Calgary to a cold, cold day and i'm not sure whether it was because it was a Sunday or the next day was a public holiday or a combination of both, but there were so few stores open in the middle of Calgary on Sunday it was ridiculous!

Decided to rent a car (only $19 a day and after paying extra for insurance etc, only cost $120 for two days!) to go out to the Banff - Lake Louise area as I couldn't book anything (remember, everything was closed!)

After heading South in the car the next morning and realising I should have been going North-West (a 60 minute detour) I got on my way to the Rockies and the scenery just from the highway was absolutely beathtaking. It seemed that I was gasping with awe every few minutes.

Stopped off at a siding to see a river running beside the road (had to go through a special gate to keep bears and wild animals off the road). I found a nice little rock for Bev, a rock from the Rockies!

The weather was fine but the clouds didn't open up all that much but Lake Louise, even in these little less than perfest conditions was absolutely beautiful.

On the way back I stopped into Banff and could quickly see that there was lots more to discover here and decided to make another trip tomorrow to seal the deal.

There were also lots of shops hand making chocolates and popcorn etc. Told you Jenn, you should have come!
